Science House, LLC

From the start of 2010 to the end of 2011, I was the Special Events and Outreach Manager and Director of Operations of Science House, LLC, an organization dedicated to promoting and advancing science throughout the world.  Designing, curating, and producing over 50 events per year, Megan was the driving force connecting scientists with artists, media professionals, and potential funding sources.  Beyond these, duties, I was the project manager for a dizzying assortment of media projects, brainstorming sessions, and consulting services.  Below are a few highlights from my time there.

Events

Pitch Sessions

Science House Capital, the commercial arm of Science House, LLC, held monthly pitch sessions as a forum for scientists with early stage technology and entrepreneurs with science-driven startups to pitch their businesses before a panel of science and business advisors.  Participants would receive feedback on their business plans and pitch presentation skills, as well as in-depth questions about their scientific research and the opportunity to receive funding from Science House Capital and other investors.  I worked with each presenter beforehand to assist entrepreneurs in developing a coherent and compelling message and pitch presentation, and acted as the main point of contact between Science House Capital and our panel of business advisors, outside investors, and scientific experts.

Hybrid Reality Salons

Science House partnered with the Hybrid Reality Institute, a research and advisory group focused on human-technology co-evolution, geotechnology, and translating invention into innovation.  Together with founders Ayesha and Parag Khanna, I curated and produced a series of salons that brought together thought leaders in the sciences together with social experts and scholars to discuss emerging topics that will affect our future.  These salons delved into topics such as the changing brain, citizenship in the digital world, bioenhancement and transhumanism, nanotechnology, and science fiction.  Read more about these salons on the Hybrid Reality website.

Science Outreach Salons

Working with Ted Scovell, the Director of Outreach at Rockefeller University, Science House created a series of discussional salons where scientific outreach professionals and educators could gather together to discuss challenges, setbacks, and triumphs in the industry.  Specific topics included superior outreach methodology for K-12 and college-age students, taking science out of the classroom and into institutions, and overall education strategy within the sciences.
